Album Artwork for Matthew Herbert & Momoko Gill
Cover artwork for a forthcoming album by Matthew Herbert and Momoko Gill, due for release on Strut Records, June 27th.
Each track on the album has a corresponding coloured object, all of which could fit in the palm of one’s hand. Pictured on the cover, the eleven small pieces are laid on a ceramic disc, originally intended as a phenakistoscope: underlying patterns and spirals of shape and colour would become visible when spun at optimal speed. After breaking in the kiln, the disc is now pocked with cracks and scars and remains unglazed, testament to plans undone and the trace of forces behind such change.
With art direction from Sarah Hopper, animation by Ross Stringer and support from Hugh Jones.
